My previous motive to learn English was to enjoy movies in English without subtitles. Though I still cannot easily watch movies w/o subtitles, many movies, novels, and musics give a lot of enjoyment through English. There are couple of podcast I often hear, such as CNN student news, BBC Learning English.
Some experiences of TOEIC and TOEFL also increased my interest to English.
On one hand I joined international research group and talked with international students. I became more interested in talking with those who can speak in English.
Volunteer experience regarding international students gave me new view of college life. These days I believe most benefit we have through English is to communicate with people.
When there are Japanese who live in Japan and English who live in English, they must have very different standpoint. The more I talk in English, the more I rediscover Japanese. To communicate with each other in different cultures brings me interest to both of cultures. I also take care of the content I talk because I cannot talk things in Engligh I know little about in Japanese. It's not easy to change our property by changeing language.
I'm willing to improve my Janglish (Japanese-English). From listening and reading to speaking and writing. To communicate with and to be exposed to cultures through English will give me a lot of fun.
